Sweater Pillow Rust Fair Isle

You've seen them at Pottery Barn, Ballard, and all your favorite decor shops. Knitted pillows are very much the decor statement right now. I've taken the idea and am using up cycled sweaters to make them.

This cover will fit a 14-inch pillow insert. I recommend using a feather insert for a softer pillow and easier insertion into this style cover. Please note this cover actually measure a bit smaller than the insert recommended. It was cut to the insert size, but when sewn loses a small portion of its dimension. This insures a plumper pillow.

A traditional Fair Isle style sweater of corals, rust, orange, yellow and green was the beginning of this Sweater Pillow cover.

The original sweater for this set had a front zipper. I have redesigned it a bit and incorporated a faux button band with some pretty pewter buttons.

The cover is backed with a coordinating poly blend fabric in rust, which you can see in Pictures 4 and 5.

Please note this cover is made from an up cycled sweater, not a new one. The knitted fabric of this cover is from a 55% ramie and 45% cotton sweater.

This pillow covers is not just for decor, but made to be used. I have machine washed and dried the sweater and the fabric used to back the cover. All inside edges have been serged with an overlapping stitch for strength. Closure is with a "fold-over" panel in the back.

Machine wash and dry, cold water.
